2005 USEF Dressage Breeding Sire of the Year

It’s no surprise that Contucci offspring are known for their uncomplicated, willing natures and excellent rideability. Contucci’s sire Caprimond was Champion of his 100-day test, and by the very early age of seven, Caprimond was successfully competing in FEI dressage competitions and progressed to a very successful Grand Prix career. Caprimond’s excellent character allowed him to serve as a schoolmaster for young Theresa Wahler. The Hanoverian Yearbook of Stallions has ranked Caprimond #1 in the breeding values for type and conformation and he is universally looked to for creating offspring with excellent rideability.

Contucci's dam Laureen is by Lungau (Lugano II) out of Adine by Akzent II. Laureen was very successful in her Mare Performance testing, receiving 9's on all her gaits and earning an overall score of 8.1. She is by the Celle stallion Lungau and her damline is by Akzent II, direct descendant of the influential Absatz. Lungau is well known for his dressage ability, his consistency as a sire, and the versatility of his offspring. Akzent II brings even further versatility and performance to Contucci's gene pool. The depth of proven riding horse blood in Contucci's pedigree emphasizes the consistency of his rideability.

Contucci commandingly won the dressage phase of his 100-day test with a score of 147.11 and six 9’s given throughout the testing. He then successfully showed in Germany, including winning a 1997 Bundeschampionat (National Breeders' Championships) qualifier with 9.2 out of 10 possible points. Under Hilltop’s ownership, Contucci developed into an FEI-level horse whose generous nature, willingness to work, and freedom of movement highlighted his daily work sessions.

Now is the time for Contucci’s offspring to shine and continue the legacy of excellence that their sire and grandsire have demonstrated. In 2005, Contucci was ranked the #1 Dressage Breeding Sire for the United States Equestrian Federation for the results of his youngsters at Sport Horse Breeding shows. He also ranked 7th on the Leading Sire list for Dressage horses. In 2006, as more of Contucci offspring started showing, that ranking moved up to #3 for the production of Dressage horses.

Annual breed registry inspections showcase Contucci’s influence. Premium and Site Champion foals, as well as Premium, Site Champion, and winning Mare Performance Test mares are expected each year from Contucci. He has produced four approved sons, including Conrad I (Contucci x Renaldo) who placed 4th at his 2004 Performance Testing and received a 9 on his jumping. Contucci has also produced three Reserve Grand Champions of Dressage at Devon: Contigo, Cabana Boy, and Con Dia.

In 2006, BW Callista (Contucci x A Jungle Prince) was Champion of the inaugural 4-year old division at the USEF/Markel Young Horse National Championships, where judge Axel Steiner commented, “You’re sitting on a treasure.” Cobra (Contucci x Wallstreet Kid) stood in 3rd place for the competitive 6-year old division at the same competition.

The success of Contucci’s offspring continues today in the dressage ring. Professionals as well as Adult Amateurs and Junior/Young Riders are searching out Contucci offspring for their winning gaits and easy rideability.
