Negro has been a consistent dressage performer, living up to the expectations set by his sire, Ferro. Negro began his career by winning both his 5- and 6-year old Stallion Show competitions in a highly convincing fashion. By the early age of 7, he was winning at Prix St. Georges. Today, Negro continues to excel at dressage and has earned impressive scores of over 70% at the Grand Prix level with rider/trainer Anna van Olst.
Negro’s sire, Olympic Ferro, has been one of the most successful international dressage stallions in history. With rider Coby Van Baalen, Ferro captured the Team Silver at the 1998 World Equestrian Games, 1999 European Championships, and 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Ferro has also been a prolific breeder and has earned the “Preferant” title for the KWPN.
Negro is out of fully proven "Prestatie" stock. His dam Fewrie (keur) is by the successful international dressage stallion Variant and the "keur preferante prestatie sport" mare Mewrie. Mewrie was successful in national showjumping. She is by the international showjumping stallion Gondelier and is out of the "ster preferante prestatie" mare Geerie. The talent for sport and the willingness to work are deeply rooted in Negro's pedigree.
Negro's official foal report from the KWPN noted that his progeny show ample walks and powerful, impressive canters. They hold themselves well in trot and show good balance, elevation, and remarkable self-carriage. To date, Negro has two approved and another licensed sons: Spargo, Tap Dance, and Troy. Spargo (Negro-Damocles-Jasper) was the Champion of his licensing in 2002 and was Champion again in 2003 when he was fully approved. Troy (Negro-Glendale-Radboud) was licensed by the KWPN in 2003 and placed 5th in the Championship ring of newly licensed young stallions.
Negro has produced other offspring with notable credentials. His daughter Segunda (Negro-Carthago Z) was given her "Ster" predicate in 2002 and was the winner of her mare approvals. Negro's son "Tyson" (Negro-Belisar) sold to England as a riding horse through the KWPN's Select Sale at Den Bosch, 2003 for 34,000 Euros. Anna van Olst has kept a young son of Negro's "Taikoen" (Negro-Rothschild) as future riding horse.
