German Riding Pony Stallion

Popeye, a registered Westfalen German Riding Pony Stallion, began his competitive career with impressive wins in Materiale classes in Germany. In his first show, he was 3rd overall, out of a class of 48 (horses & ponies), and in his second outing, he won his class of 38 (ponies) with a total score of 9. Popeye then passed his 30-Day Stallion Performance Test in Germany with the impressive score of 8.30 and ranked 4th overall. Highlights of his scores included 9.0 and 9.5 for his walk and a 9.0 for character.

He received his lifetime approval with the ISR/Oldenburg NA Sport Pony Division in 2006. His Stallion Index scores are 72.5 for Conformation, 80 for Dressage and 75 for Jumping, with an impressive total of 227.5 earned him is 1st star in the Stallion Award program. His Stallion Test scores earned him his 2nd star, making him the only Star Award Pony Stallion in the US.

Popeye’s sire, FS Pour l’Amour was a Champion of his Licensing and Champion of his Performance test, with seven scores of 9.0 and one score of 10. FS Pour l’Amour competed in the Bundeschampionat three times and has sired numerous Bundeschampionat qualifying offspring. He has a number of approved sons, including Piccolo and Panco, as well as several highly decorated mares, including Paola. FS Pour l’Amour’s grandsire Power Boy is standing at Flyinge, the Swedish State Stud and is the sire of Power and Paint, Bundeschampionat winner, Silver Medal winner at the European Championships, and six-time National Champion in Holland.

Popeye’s dam, Nice Touch, a Westphalian breeding federation show winner, is a States Premium mare by Night Star I. She has produced four St. Premium daughters in addition to Popeye. Night Star I has sired approved stallions including North Star and Nanuc and many SPS mares in addition to Nice Touch.

In 2007, Popeye moved to Hilltop Farm and was shown at the Fair Hill Breed Show where he won Stallions 4 & Older class, the Stallion Championship, and the Mature Horse Championship. These wins qualified him for the USDF/GAIG East Coast Stallion Final to be held at Dressage at Devon. Under the lights in the Dixon Oval, Popeye impressed both the spectators and the judges and was the Reserve Champion of the USDF/GAIG East Coast Stallion Final. He returned the next day to in the Westfalen class with a score over 80% - one of the highest of the entire weekend!

In training at Hilltop Farm, Popeye will resume his competitive dressage career in 2008. His natural athleticism and good work ethic make him a pleasure to ride. Popeye also demonstrates good scope over fences and great enthusiasm for jumping, making him a very versatile stallion for breeders to consider.
